How to order coffee in Polish

You do not need a long sentence to order politely. Learn one useful pattern, listen for the barista’s question, and change just the drink when you need to.

THE QUICK ANSWER

To order a coffee in Polish, say Poproszę kawę (A coffee, please). For coffee with milk, say Poproszę kawę z mlekiem. Start with Dzień dobry and finish with Dziękuję.

Build your order with poproszę

Use Poproszę followed by what you want: Poproszę kawę or Poproszę herbatę (A tea, please). In these examples, kawa becomes kawę and herbata becomes herbatę because they are the things you are asking for.

Start with a complete phrase rather than swapping in any dictionary form. Polish noun endings can change, so a ready-to-use phrase is a helpful first step.

Listen for the next question

The barista may ask Na miejscu czy na wynos? You can answer with just Na miejscu, proszę or Na wynos, proszę. You do not need to repeat the whole order.

If you hear Czy coś jeszcze?, answer Nie, dziękuję when your order is complete. To add something, use Poproszę jeszcze sernik (Cheesecake as well, please).
