THE QUICK ANSWER
To ask to try on clothes in Polish, say Czy mogę to przymierzyć? (Can I try this on?). Find the fitting room with Gdzie jest przymierzalnia? If a shirt is too small, say Ta koszula jest za mała and ask Czy jest większy rozmiar? (Is there a larger size?).

Czy mogę to przymierzyć?
Can I try this on?
Przymierzyć means to try on an item to check the fit. To means this or it when the item is clear from context.
Gdzie jest przymierzalnia?
Where is the fitting room?
Przymierzalnia is the place for trying on clothes. For several fitting rooms, you may hear przymierzalnie.
Mam jedną rzecz do przymierzenia.
I have one item to try on.
Use this if staff ask how many items you have. Jedną rzecz means one item; the example count is fictional.
Ta koszula jest za mała.
This shirt is too small.
Koszula is grammatically feminine, so use ta and mała. These endings describe the shirt, not the customer.
Czy jest większy rozmiar?
Is there a larger size?
Większy means larger. With the item already clear, this asks whether a larger size is available.
Poproszę mniejszy rozmiar.
A smaller size, please.
Mniejszy means smaller. Choose this when the current item is too big, rather than too small.
Te spodnie są za długie.
These trousers are too long.
Spodnie is plural in Polish. Te, są and długie match the trousers, even when you mean one pair.
Czy jest w innym kolorze?
Is it available in another colour?
Ask this when staff know which item you mean. W innym kolorze changes the colour, not the size.
Ta koszula dobrze leży.
This shirt fits well.
Dobrze leży describes how the shirt fits on the body. Literally, leży means lies, but fits is natural English here.
Wezmę tę koszulę.
I will take this shirt.
Use this when you decide to buy the shirt. Tę koszulę is the object form of ta koszula.

Ask to try it on and find the fitting room
Hold or point to the item and ask Czy mogę to przymierzyć? The verb przymierzyć is for putting something on to check whether it fits. You can name the item instead: Czy mogę przymierzyć tę koszulę? means Can I try on this shirt? Both questions work without identifying the customer’s gender.
Gdzie jest przymierzalnia? asks where the fitting room is. Staff may answer Przymierzalnie są po prawej stronie (The fitting rooms are on the right). If they ask Ile rzeczy jest do przymierzenia? (How many items are there to try on?), reply with the actual count. Mam jedną rzecz do przymierzenia is the one-item answer used below. Shop procedures and item limits can vary.
Describe the problem and ask for the right change
Za before an adjective means too in these examples: za mała is too small and za długie is too long. The ending follows the item. Say Ta koszula jest za mała for a shirt, Ten sweter jest za mały for a jumper, and Te spodnie są za długie for trousers. This is agreement with the clothing noun, not with the person wearing it.
If the current size is too small, ask Czy jest większy rozmiar? If it is too big, use Poproszę mniejszy rozmiar. Większy and mniejszy point in opposite directions, so choose the one that matches the problem. Czy jest w innym kolorze? asks about another colour instead. Availability in the dialogue is fictional; the question lets staff check what they actually have.
Check the fit before deciding
After trying the replacement, Ta koszula dobrze leży says that the shirt fits well. The verb leżeć often means to lie, but here it describes the fit of clothing. Compare the earlier Ta koszula jest za mała with Ta koszula dobrze leży: the second sentence reports that this shirt now fits the customer well.
When you decide to buy it, say Wezmę tę koszulę. Notice the change from ta koszula, the subject in the fit sentences, to tę koszulę, the object of wezmę. If you need more time, Jeszcze się zastanowię means I will think about it some more. A fitting-room conversation can end with either decision; the practice dialogue below chooses to buy.

YOUR TURN
One small speaking challenge.
Practise with a fictional shirt that is too small. Ask to try it on, say you have one item, explain the problem and request a larger size. Then change the imaginary problem to too big and choose the smaller-size request. No personal measurements are needed.
The fictional shirt is too small, and you want the same shirt in a larger size. Which question asks for that change?
Show the answer
Czy jest większy rozmiar? Większy rozmiar means a larger size, which matches the goal. Mniejszy rozmiar asks for a smaller size; w innym kolorze asks for another colour. All three are valid questions, but they request different changes.
Now say Czy jest większy rozmiar? aloud.
